Photos of week from Progressive-Street Group

Chosen by Batsceba Hardy from our Facebook Galleries and changed every Monday morning.

In today's society, recognition and appreciation have become significant to many individuals. In our group and on our website, we recognize noteworthy accomplishments such as Photo of the Week, but we do not claim superiority. We proudly display your award-winning photos in our galleries and share them with you. Although we acknowledge our imperfections, we strive to provide you with the best possible experience using our intelligent features, magazines and books. Our ultimate goal is to help you appreciate your own photography as well as that of others whilst also encouraging thought and contemplation.

Apratim Chanda

I don’t mind that this image originated as a successful experiment or a fortunate mistake. The outcome is a striking image that resonates with us.

Monday 14.04.25

Delfim Correlo

This image is likely to face a lot of negative criticism, but I find it enchanting. Regardless of the luck involved in capturing this shot, it reflects the photographer's courage and determination to try. The result is simply stunning. In today's world, which often lacks an appreciation for culture, many may not understand it, but this is truly a fantastic piece of photography. A painting.

Mikael Carlsson & Trevor Gwin

Trevor Gwin

The analogue image of Mikael and the digital one of Trevor share the common elements of a window frame and an interplay of gazes; however, they are fundamentally different and have both captivated me.

The first image depicts a man's relationship with his dog, while the second reflects the concerns and expectations of life. The first portrays a calm and ordinary posture, whereas the second misleads us with a woman’s face superimposed on the body in front of her.

Although these images may not present a riddle, they effectively communicate messages, showcasing a high level of professionalism in their execution.

Recently, I haven't spent much time online, as I've been resting my eyes. Looking at too many images can create a barrier to enjoyment. With that in mind, I want to highlight two images that you might not normally consider. The first one depicts a world that is increasingly rare today: a child who seems to have stepped out of an old children's book. The colors and composition create a dreamlike quality. It makes me ponder about childhood today. How are these children experiencing their lives? What does the future hold for them? This image stands out as completely different from the others I've seen in the past couple of days.

The second image presents an unusual portrayal of poverty and invites deep reflection.

Since I will not be very present this February, I chose to share multiple images.

The image of Gabi showcases a talented photographer at work. Capturing the perfect picture is not easy, even when encountering something exceptional. Gabi managed to find the right angle, maintaining both composition and lighting.

Gerard Barre succeeded in conveying the intimacy of a quiet moment during a trip (that's how I imagined it). In this piece, composition and black and white tones take centre stage alongside the subjects.

Alberto Melis documented a man's labour on a cold, misty morning. Once again, the composition is impeccable in black and white.

In his latest work, Victor employed his signature strong contrasts to isolate the small subject, enhancing the drama of its gaze. His recent Indian photographs present a black-and-white view of the country, stripped of the colours we are accustomed to.

Keef demonstrates his curiosity; this time, he applied his keen eye and discovered a detail that he presented with perfect composition and exquisite black and white tones.

Saikat Chanda & Sultan Koç

Saikat Chanda

This photograph is likely one of those fortunate moments that showcases the photographer's remarkable talent for capturing spontaneous events. It has now become a symbolic image.

Sultan Koç

An image that captures a religious festival and provokes deeper thought.

Ashura is observed by all Muslims, but for Shia Muslims, it commemorates the martyrdom of Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, at Karbala in 680 AD. This significant day falls on the 10th of Muharram in the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims typically fast on this day, honouring events like Noah leaving the Ark and God's salvation of Moses from the Egyptians. Shia Muslims engage in mourning rituals, including parades in black clothing, where they chant and express grief through physical acts

This image is perfectly composed and makes excellent use of natural light. It captures the joy of living through the backlit figure and reveals the depth of children's emotional thoughts. The image reflects a way of life that, for many, might seem extreme, free from the trappings of consumerism.

These four images, which can be paired in two sets, impressed me with their naturalness and exceptional quality. It’s not always easy to capture a moment and convey an emotion in such a professional manner.

Edd Carlile

The image showcases a striking contrast between the sacred and the profane. It is expertly executed, featuring outstanding black-and-white tones and lighting that create a remarkable atmosphere. The light beautifully illuminates the subject while casting the scene of Saint Francis in prayer into subtle shadows. This composition effectively juxtaposes the future with the past. Christian Stops

John Gill, Sandor Rozsas, Fabrizio Secchi, Nuno Vasconcelos Branco, Alejandro Ilukewitsch

The image depicts "individuals" who belong to our contemporary Fake World. It doesn't matter whether the woman is real or artificial; the feelings it evokes in us are ones of melancholy and longing. There is a sense of nocturnal solitude, wrapped in an atmosphere of mystery.

These images struck me and I would like to point them out as a gift from the Befana

Knowing how to see is a crucial skill for any photographer. It entails grasping the elements of composition, colour, light, and the story or emotion conveyed through the image. B.D. Colen exemplifies this mastery, consistently creating striking photographs.

For instance, Pascal Flores' work showcases powerful symbolism: it portrays a man facing a storm with his umbrella in a dramatic, end-of-the-world setting.

Pranay Kantal

Pranay Kantal

In this shot Pascal Colin talks to us about poverty, welcomed into an empty church. It is a striking and thought-provoking image.

While Pranay Kantal with this 'artistic' shot talks to us about childhoods and happiness. The future still seems possible…
