Stéphane Carvalho

Baron noir.jpg

always looking for ways to exist

Stéphane Carvalho

lI was born in Paris in 1973 and dropped my suitcases in Montreal a couple years ago.

I became interested in photography during my cinema studies. I first started with analog photography, learning development, printing etc. I'm still shooting with both film and digital cameras.
I don't consider myself a street photographer, but I like to document my environment, the city and urban life around me.
I like all types of photography genres, from abstract to street photo.
What I like in street photo is the wandering photography, observing human behavior, capture humorous situation, seize loneliness in an urban crowd...

We are always looking for ways to exist, how we look at others or at ourselves...  I'm learning something new everyday with Photography, it helps me being a better human and photographer as days go by.
I'm open to collaborative exhibition with other photographers.

I like to walk the streets and alleys of my city.
I like wandering photography.
Most of the time I go with one or two cameras and wander around to shoot pictures, waiting for a situation to arises, trying to make a good use of my surroundings and seize a moment. I edit my images using Lightroom or Photoshop for post processing and sometimes also use a darkroom. I like to combine both analog and digital in my work.
Sometimes I can be caught focusing my lens on a wall, photographing bricks, plaster or cracks, getting inspired by images that emphasize all textures. Having people staring at me like I'm crazy in the process...
But as the great L. Cohen said: There is a crack in everything.that's how  the light gets in.

All my public images are on DeviantArt, I'm not on Facebook and i don't want to see my photos on Facebook. I'm a bit weirdo paranoiac with Mr Zuckerberg and his social big brother media.
